Fly Ash / Cement and Concrete Buyer Checks

Fly Ash Buying Guide: Technical Evidence, Mix Trials, and Acceptance

Build a fly ash buying brief around your project requirements, selected-material reports, trial plan, and receiving checks.

Start with the project acceptance brief

The fly ash portfolio lists cement, concrete, blocks, roads, and infrastructure applications. State the exact intended use and provide the material requirements set by your project or production team. Ask the supplier to identify the offered fly ash and the reports available for that material.

  • Name the application and proposed evaluation, including any replacement target your team wants to trial.
  • Provide the required material standard, classification, and project-specific acceptance criteria where applicable.
  • Ask for evidence against each required criterion before approving the material for a project.

Distinguish published chemistry from acceptance evidence

Published reference figures include SiO2 at 55.13%, Al2O3 at 24.45%, loss on ignition below 1%, and residue on a 45 micron sieve below 12%. Use these to frame technical questions. Request the applicable test methods and selected-material results needed to assess your specification; project approval should be based on the required evidence.

  • Ask which source or grade the reference figures describe and which material is included in the offer.
  • Request the chemistry, loss-on-ignition, and fineness reports your acceptance brief requires.
  • Identify any missing performance or classification evidence and have your technical team review it before ordering.

Define the production or mix trial

For cement, concrete, or block evaluation, have the responsible technical team define the trial formulation, conditions, and approval criteria. Ask for a sample linked to the proposed supply and record its identity with the trial results. Confirm any performance requirement through that evaluation and its supporting documentation.

  • Agree the trial quantity, mix or process conditions, and measurements to be recorded.
  • Have the buyer's technical team set any strength, workability, or other performance checks and their assessment timing.
  • Write the approved material basis and the evidence required for subsequent lots after the trial is reviewed.

Specify the receiving and dispatch arrangement

The product record lists dry and bulk fly ash with a current packing reference of jumbo bags. The TDS also lists 50 kg bags. Clarify whether the inquiry means loose bulk handling or bagged material and confirm the offered arrangement. The published sample COA is a representative reference, so agree the lot documents separately.

  • Describe the unloading and storage arrangement and request confirmation of the supplied form and packing.
  • Agree the sampling basis, required pre-dispatch reports, and receiving checks.
  • Include quantity, destination, required schedule, and the process for resolving an out-of-limit result in the buying brief.
